Basic Input Output System
The basic Input-Output System is the full form of BIOS. It provides runtime services to the programs and operating systems. It is also known as System BIOS, ROM BIOS, or PC BIOS.during the booting process it is used to initialize hardware. It is the first software to run and pre-installed on a personal computer. The name originates from the operating system used in CP/M in 1975. In the computers of recent times, the BIOS is stored on flash memory. The reason is to avoid removing the chip from the motherboard for rewriting. Gary Kildall created the term BIOS (Basic Input Output System).
