How do you build and maintain positive relationships with the community?

In a society or community, many incidents prompt police officers to take action against the accused. To maintain a positive relationship with the community, I reckon the job is to reduce crime and robbery ratios and help people live a peaceful life. It thus makes people trust the services of the police officers and cooperate with them when the situation demands it.
